Notice Regarding Dance Student Applications

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts-Middletown (FTAA-MT) is a school that specializes in the classical arts. It typically takes six years to complete the Academy’s dance program, as students must complete 6 levels of classical Chinese dance courses as well as academic courses taught in both English and Chinese. Once a student has passed all the required courses and has fulfilled graduation requirements, he/she will receive a FTAA-MT Graduation Diploma.

Classical Chinese dance has a history of thousands of years. It has systematic training in bearing and form (shenyun and shenfa), as well as training in basic skills and challenging tumbling techniques. Thus, those who learn classical Chinese dance will experience enhanced physical abilities, including agility, jumping abilities, explosive force, and flexibility. In addition, students will attain the grace and sophistication required of dancers. Most importantly, in order to bring out the inner essence of classical Chinese dance, it is emphasized that students must have moral integrity and maintain a pure heart and mind.

FTAA-MT will now begin the application process for the coming Fall term. Students can receive a high quality high school education through either one of two tracks: Academic or Artistic. The dance program at Fei Tian aims to impart pure classical Chinese dance to adolescents who have an appreciation for traditional Chinese dance and culture and expose them to the benefits of authentic Chinese culture.

All applicants must attend a live audition. We will start accepting entry-level applicants from ages 12 to 14. Students who are 15 or 16 years old may still audition if they have the required physique, have had previous dance experience, and are dedicated dance students. Once accepted into the dance program, students will take placement exams for academic courses. The high school academic curriculum follows the requirements of New York State for grades 6 through 12.

Applicants may follow the instructions and complete the required forms, or contact the Admissions Office for more information. We will notify you shortly regarding the audition location and time.
