The Fei Tian Academy of the Arts Middletown Campus dance department is officially opening ballet classes for the 2017-2018 school year. These classes will be offered as an alternative to the Classical Chinese Dance courses. Ballet training will be conducted systematically, starting from the very basics and will be designed as a six-year middle to high school dance program. In addition to flexibility and fundamental ballet training, ballet program students will also be able to select additional dance electives, such as tumbling and ethnic dance.
As the Western world’s most renowned classical dance form, Ballet is imbued with elegance, propriety, and artistic beauty. These are qualities that benefit those who practice this art form by enhancing their physical strength and beauty while improving their inner artistry.
Developed during the Renaissance, ballet sprouted from Italian roots and gradually became the premier classical dance form of the Western world, with many countries such as France and Russia eventually developing their own ballet styles. Originating from the royal courts, ballet gradually spread to the masses, but retained its regal characteristics of elegance, precision, and sophistication. All of this is demonstrated through the clean bodily lines, technical precision, and precise footwork commonly exhibited by well trained ballet dancers around the world.
In addition to submitting the application, all applicants must attend a live audition.
We are currently accepting entry-level applicants between the ages of 12-14. Prior ballet training is NOT required for students in this age range. Students between the ages of 15-18 may still apply and audition, but are recommended to have prior ballet training.
The audition process will include a full review of the student’s bodily proportions, flexibility, muscle conditions, coordination, and technique, such as barre and center work, and will also include an interview conducted by the dance faculty.
All applicants should submit the following information:
- Length of prior ballet training, if any.
- Head shot photo
- Full body shot photo of first arabesque or tendu a la second
